SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION

What is the Sacrament of Reconciliation?

Reconciliation, also known as Confession, is the sacrament through which sins committed after Baptism are forgiven. It restores the grace lost through sin and reconciles the individual with God and the Church. “The sacrament of Penance is necessary for salvation for those who have fallen after Baptism" (CCC 980). This sacrament emphasizes God's mercy and the importance of contrition, confession, and penance, (see James 5:16, which encourages believers to confess their sins to one another.)
